TART Trails hosts Winter Trails Day

TART Trails allowed guests to try a new winter activity on Saturday.

GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- Hundreds of people got the chance to try out a new winter activity on Saturday in Grand Traverse County.

TART Trails hosted the 10th annual Winter Trails Day at Timber Ridge Resort.

Those who registered for the event could use the resort's trails and rental equipment for free.

Family friends Steve Kaczmarek and Susy White used the day to check out Timber Ridge Resort for the first time.

“When you can go try new gear out for the first time, you don’t have the risk of buying something and getting out there and realizing, 'This is not for me,'" Kaczmarek said. "Being able to try things out is really special. On a gorgeous day like this, how could you stay inside?”

“I was really excited to stop and check this out," White said. "Now that I’ve been here, I’m wondering about how often I could possible use this, which I think will be more.”

Guided tours were available on skis, fat-tire bikes, or snowshoes.

TART Trails teamed up with the VASA Ski Club, Einstein Cycles, the Northern Michigan Mountain Bike Association and the Record-Eagle's "TC Trimdown" challenge to host the event.

Many at Winter Trails Day said this was the highest attendance the day has ever seen.
