Three arrested in $500,000 embezzlement

Hotel employees in Chippewa County are suspected of embezzling more than $500,000.

CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- Three people were arrested in Chippewa County's largest ever embezzlement case.

On Thursday warrants were issued for three people on charges of conducting a criminal enterprise.

The investigation started when the Sault Ste. Marie Police Department received a complaint in the Fall 2017.

Police said the employees from the Ramada Ojibway Inn are suspected of stealing more than $500,000.

Officers said the suspects allegedly overcharged hotel guests and kept the difference.

Search warrants were executed at multiple houses, banks and businesses.

The Ramada is now under new management and issuing refunds to those overcharged.

The suspects are awaiting arraignment.

More arrested are expected.
