Three arrested in connection to Kalkaska murder investigation

Two more people have been arrested in connection with the death of 42-year-old Broderick Ward.

According to the Kalkaska County Sheriff's Department, two males and one female are in custody and are charged in connection with the alleged murder.

Around 5 p.m. Tuesday, Kalkaska County deputies were called to a home on Gonyer Road in Springfield Township, where deputies found Ward shot dead inside of the home.

“From what we know the gentleman was either picked up and brought up here or had got up north here,” said Kalkaska County Undersheriff Harry Shipp. “He's from Inkster and at some point the family couldn't make contact with him and they decided to come up looking for him. That's when they discovered him in the residence on Gonyer Road deceased.”

Deputies say the gun shot caused Ward's death, but his family believes the crime was racially motivated.

“This most definitely is racially related because my brother don't know nobody up there,” said Samuel Ward, victim's brother.

According to the sheriff's department, the incident is drug related and the parties involved are believed to be known to each other.
