Traverse City man found guilty of embezzling more than $100k
GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A former bookkeeper at a northern Michigan business has been found guilty of embezzlement.
Gregory Whiteford, 53 or Traverse City, was tried by jury and found guilty on October 30, according to Cpt. Randy Fewless with the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Department.
Whiteford was the bookkeeper for Traverse Bay Marine and accused of stealing more than $100,000 between January 2010 and July 2016
Whiteford was first charged with embezzlement in May 2017 but the charges were dismissed without prejudice on July 27, 2017.
According to Grand Traverse County Prosecutor Bob Cooney the charges were dismissed because new evidence was found that needed more time for analysis.
He was found guilty on a charge of embezzlement between $50,000 and $100,000.
Whiteford is set to be sentenced on December 7.
