Traverse Tall Ship Company kicks-off season on renovated Manitou ship
LEELANAU COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- The weather in northern Michigan is finally starting to warm up, meaning the Traverse Tall Ship Company is preparing for another season full of sailing.
The Traverse Tall Ship Company sails around the Great Lakes in two ships, the Manitou and the Scout.
The Manitou’s wooden deck was completely upgraded and re-finished this winter.
Now, the Manitou is ready for another season of sailing tours and educational programs.
According to the owner and senior captain, Dave McGinnis, the Manitou carried a total of 10,000 people last season and expect to see just as many this year.
With the help of the Inland Seas Education Association, the Manitou is the hub for a children’s educational program that runs through the summer.
Crews are also preparing for daily sailing tours, bed and breakfast cruises, wine cruises and more.
