OTSEGO COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- One popular northern Michigan ski resort is debuting some upgrades this season.

Northern Michigan is known for its winter activities and Treetops Resort in Gaylord has made some investments to expand its services.

“You know we tubing, if you've been here before, it's very popular, very hard to get into because it would always be full. And so we've doubled the size of that. We've tripled the size of our snowmaking so we've been able to make a lot more snow than we have in the past and that'll continue to be very important as we go throughout the winter and just lots of we've we increased our rental fleet by 30% for skis and snowboard," said General Manager at Treetops Resorts Barry Owens. "So you know, people don't get shut out when they need rentals to come up here.”

One family of skiers said they come to Treetops Resort every year during the holidays to hit the slopes and spend quality time with each other.

“I learned how to ski here when I was three," said Skier Aynslie Garvie. "So it's fun to bring our kids up here now and share it with them.”

Ownes said one of his favorite events begins Monday.

“We have sleigh rides where you can go to a location and you can hop on and go on a sleigh ride. You know big draft horses. We worked with some people here in the area from Cook Family Farms and they bring in the sleighs and their horses and they're great partners with us and do an excellent job of providing service for our guests that want to go on the sleigh ride. And then there's also we do select dates," said Owens. "We do a sleigh ride dinner where people will go on a sleigh ride and enjoy the trail. And then they'll get shuttled up to one of our restaurants at the top of the hill. And then though it'll just be the people on that sleigh. In the restaurant that will enjoy dinner.”

The first sleigh ride and dinner are on January 8.
