Two fishermen found dead after falling through ice in Huron County
HURON COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- The Huron County Sheriff's Office is urging people to use caution after two fishermen were found dead after falling through the ice in Saginaw Bay over the weekend.
The Huron County Sheriff's Office responded Sunday after someone reported that they received a voicemail from a friend who reported falling through the ice off of Fairhaven Township, which is about 100 miles north of Detroit.
Investigators say the call for help appears to have been made about 9:30 a.m. but the voicemail didn't arrive until 2:30 p.m.
According to the department, an ATV and ice fishing shanty were found in the water was roughly 4 feet deep.
The Huron County sheriff says two bodies were found by searchers nearby.
The names of the victims have not been released.
The deaths are still under investigation.
