U.P. highway named newest Pure Michigan Byway
MACKINAC COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A 92-mile section of highway in the Upper Peninsula became the newest addition to the Pure Michigan Byway.
US-2 was designated the Top of the Lake Scenic Byway on Friday by the Michigan Department of Transportation.
This 92-mile section of US-2 runs from St. Ignace to Thompson on the north shore of Lake Michigan.
The Pure Michigan Byway program is a rebranding of MDOT's Heritage Route program.
The Top of the Lake Byway brings the program to 21 byways stretching 1,152 miles.
The byway was made official in a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday in Naubinway, with area and state officials present.
The byway program was started to highlight the heritage and beauty of different highways and roadsides in Michigan
