EMMET COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- McLaren Northern Michigan said virtual nursing technology implemented in 2018 is paying off as the hospital battles the coronavirus.
The technology allows nurses to visit patients virtually without face-to-face contact.
It also saves the hospital's personal protective equipment.
There are more than 100 rooms in the hospital that have this technology right now.
"The virtual capabilities doesn't replace the direct patient care whether it's a physician, nurse, pharmacist and case manager," said Jennifer Woods, the Vice President of Patient Care Services for McLaren Northern Michigan. "There is still need for that hands-on care. We do that every day. The virtual care allows us to do the work in a different way."
Woods said the goal is for every room in the hospital to eventually have the technology.
