MISSAUKEE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- Michigan State Police has released the dash cam video of the officer-involved shooting in Missaukee County last month.

On July 13, a trooper was shot during a traffic stop on Lotan Road near the Intersection of Morey Road in Lake Township.

One of the people in the vehicle Douglas Sawyer, 32 of Fenton, shot the officer twice before running into the woods and killing himself.

In the video you can hear the officer say "He shot me twice," multiple times while still working to secure the scene.

The trooper hasn't been identified but was released from the hospital within days of the shooting and is expected to be back to work soon.

The two other people in the vehicle at the time of the shooting, a man and a woman, were arrested but later released and aren't facing charges at this time, according to troopers.

At the time of the shooting, Sawyer had three valid warrants for his arrest, according to First Lieutenant Joshua Lator.

The warrants were for the following:

  • Parole Absconder warrant resulting from his failure to comply with parole after a prison sentence for Home Invasion
  • Felony warrant for Criminal Sexual Assault 4th Degree out of the Michigan State Police Paw Paw Post
  • Civil warrant for child neglect
