Winter storm warning for all of northern Michigan for the weekend
NORTHERN MICHIGAN (WPBN/WGTU) -- Today we’ll see light snow in the Upper Peninsula, but heavy wet snow in the Lower. Snow totals will be up to 8 inches thru the day in the northern Lower. Expect lighter snow totals south of Cadillac...but here rain and thunderstorms are expected there. Temperatures will fall thru the day. Highs will be 28-32 in the U.P...and 26-36 in the Lower. The wind will gust to 35 mph from the northeast.
In the late afternoon thru early evening we get a break from the heavy, widespread precipitation for a few hours, but tonight the rain, freezing rain, sleet, and snow spread across the entire region again. Lows 18-28. Wind from the east will gust to 35 mph. Look for Icy roads everywhere.
Sunday again look for a wintry mix of precipitation types in the Lower Peninsula...and mostly snow in the Upper Peninsula. Ice buildup from Cadillac southward will be as much as 1/4 of an inch. That’s enough to bring tree limbs down onto power lines, so power outages are a possibility . Highs 25 to 34 around northern Michigan. And the wind will gust to 35 mph from the east and northeast. Very difficult day for traveling.
Monday we see the back end of this storm. Not as much precipitation, but some more rain and snow showers are expected. Highs will average 32 degrees.
Places across northern Michigan saw up to foot of snow overnight.
