Winter weather delays flights in, out of Cherry Capital Airport
GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- The snow is impacting more than just the roads across Michigan.
Numerous flights in and out of Cherry Capital Airport have been delayed due to inclement weather.
At least eight flights coming in and out of Cherry Capital Airport were delayed and at least two flights were cancelled.
This caused frustration among some passengers like Joyce Pedersen who has been trying to fly out of Cherry Capital Airport to Chicago since Saturday.
"We're praying that we can get out today. We don't want to this to be the fourth time," said Pedersen.
On Tuesday, icy conditions caused the Detroit Metro Airport to shutdown.
Cherry Capital Airport Director Kevin Klein says that while flights have been able to arrive and depart at Cherry Capital Airport, weather issues in Detroit and Chicago caused some of the delays that left some passengers waiting.
"I drove from Cadillac to Traverse and then to be here and to find out that my flight is delayed kinda stinks. I want to get home. I’ve been here since Monday. It just kinda puts a damper on your time. I have to work tomorrow," said Melissa Bushman who had a flight to Chicago delayed.
Despite the waiting Pedersen says she is grateful to be safe.
"We missed some doctors appointments and a conference but at least we're not in a situation in a dangerous situation on a plane. I'm grateful for that," said Pedersen.
