Woman killed in Leelanau County crash identified
LEELANAU COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- The victims in a Leelanau County crash, where a woman died, have been identified.
Leelanau County Sheriff's Deputies were called t a single vehicle crash on M-22 at East Murray Court around 2:33 p.m. Tuesday.
According to investigators a 2014 Dodge Durango was northbound on M-22 when it swerved to the left.
It is unknown at this time why the vehicle swerved.
The responding deputies said bystanders were performing CPR on the female passenger and the driver was still inside.
The passenger has been identified as 81-year-old Karol Butler of Suttons Bay.
The driver was an 82-year-old Suttons Bay man.
Both Butler and the driver were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Butler was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The driver is currently in the intensive care unit with serious injuries.
Investigators said both Butler and the driver were wearing seatbelts and the airbags on the vehicle deployed at the time of the crash.
There is no indication of drugs or alcohol involved in the crash and it is believed the driver suffered a medical issue, according to investigators.
The crash remains under investigation.
