Up North Pride Week wraps up at The Little Fleet

Friday's Supreme Court decision to legalize same-sex marriage across the country matched up with Traverse City's Up North Pride Week festivities.

History was made Friday when the Supreme Court ruled that same-sex marriage is now legal in all 50-states.

The courtâ??s decision matched up with Traverse Cityâ??s Up North Pride Week and people continued to celebrate at The Little Fleet on Saturday.

Well-known chef Mario Batali spoke the words, â??liberty, freedom and justice for allâ?? just before a Visibility Stroll around downtown Traverse City.

Batali was one of the grand marshalls and walked the streets alongside hundreds of people that came out in support of same sex marriage and diversity in Northern Michigan.

Organizer Jenn Cameron said the Supreme Court's decision promotes equality.

â??We can legally marry in all 50 states and there's a lot more work to be done but this is so important because we have to come out, we have to be visible,â?? said Cameron with Up North Pride Week. â??All our straight allies are going to be here and you're going to see just how open and accepting and loving Traverse City is today.â??

Cameron said their attendance nearly double, if not tripled, compared to last year, going on to say sheâ??s proud to stand in solidarity and move forward toward a bright new future of equality.
