For many, December is a month of giving—you give to your friends, your families, and you give to your communities!

The YMCA gives you several ways to give back to your neighborhood during the holiday season.

1.Wool socks for Safe Harbor. Every year, the YMCA NorthCoast Masters Swim Team collects wool socks for Safe Harbor and encourages the community to do the same with a collection box located in the front entrance of the West YMCA.

The group collects an average of 80 pairs of socks each year, starting December 1, 2018, and continuing until the week of Christmas. The community has already collected over 100 pairs this year!

2.Giving tree. The YMCA coordinates the sponsorship of local families each year from the end of November through early December, allowing the community to purchase needed items for families struggling financially around the holidays.

This year, the Y sponsored over 30 individuals by partnering up with the Women’s Resource Center, Paper Angels, and Big Brothers Big Sisters.

3.Toy drive. This year, the Y is hosting another way of giving back—a toy drive for new and used toys!

Around the Christmas holiday, many parents may be looking for a way to make space for new toys their children will be receiving. This is a perfect time to teach children the value of giving back.

The toy drive will be hosted at the West YMCA location from December 19, 2018, through January 4, 2019. All toys will be donated to the Child Watch at the West Y, the YMCA Child Development Center at Sojourn Church, and the Little Explorers program hosted at the West YMCA.
