Area teams take part in volleyball quarterfinals

Rogers City was the only northern Michigan team to pull out a victory on Tuesday night in the quarterfinals. The Hurons will face Plymouth Christian on Thursday in a Class D semifinal down in Battle Creek.

A win on Tuesday night would secure a trip to Battle Creek and a spot in the MHSAA volleyball final four. Four area teams entered the evening with a chance at continuing their season but only one of them could walk away with a victory.

The Rogers City Hurons picked up a nail biting victory over Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart in a Class D quarterfinal 3-2 to advance to their second straight state semifinal. They will take on defending state champion Plymouth Christian on Thursday at 2pm at Kellogg Arena. Also in Class D, Rudyard took on Munising for a spot in the semifinals. The Bulldogs fell short to the Mustangs 3-1.

Cadillac appeared in its ninth straight quarterfinal in Class B as the Vikings took on Fruitport. Their season came to an end in a 3-1 match loss. Houghton Lake entered the quarterfinals in Class C but the Bobcats season ended with a 3-0 sweep at the hands of Calumet.
