Five area teams win regional girls basketball crowns

Glen Lake picked up its second straight regional title over Charlevoix on Thursday as the Lakers are looking for a return trip to the final four as well.

A regional championship was the ultimate prize at stake on Thursday night as several girls basketball teams stepped out on the floor.

In Class B the Kingsley Stags continued their undefeated campaign put handling Big Rapids 56-39. Next up for the Stags will be a quarterfinal with Muskegon Oakridge at Cadillac on Tuesday.

We will have a rematch between Glen Lake and St. Ignace in the Class C quarterfinals after the Lakers defeated Charlevoix 66-35 and St. Ignace topped Ishpeming 70-56. The Lakers and Saints will play at Gaylord on Tuesday night for a spot in the Class C semifinals.

In Class D Gaylord St. Mary picked up an impressive 61-51 win over Cedarville to advance to the quarterfinals. Next up for them will be a match-up with Chassell in either Sault Ste. Marie or Negaunee. Bellaire also picked up a Class D regional title in double overtime on Thursday against Rogers City 46-43. The Eagles will now have to face Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart in the Tuesday quarterfinal down at Mason County Central.
