Four area football programs heading into state finals, semifinals this weekend

Pickford is undefeated rolling into the 8-man Division 1 state championship game on Saturday in Marquette against Morrice.

The high school football playoffs are coming to a close with Thanksgiving week approaching but this far into November we still have four area football programs with the chance to bring home a state championship.

In the 8-man division the state finals will be held on Saturday up at the Superior Dome in Marquette. Pickford plays in the D1 title match against Morrice while Onekama will play Rapid River in the D2 final set to kickoff shortly after the conclusion of the first game.

In the 11-man tournaments we have two teams left in the state semifinals. Lake City is looking to make it one step farther than a week ago and book that trip to Ford Field but they will have to get back a tough New Lothrop team in the Division 7 semifinal to do so. Traverse City St. Francis is also back in the third semifinal in the past four seasons. The Glads will meet up with Montague in the semifinal in Division 6.

Brett Sommers with the Traverse City Record Eagle helps us take a look at all four games this Saturday and how are teams are looking heading into these pivotal contests.
