Kingsley gets long-awaited win over Cadillac for regional title

Next up for Kingsley will be a state quarterfinal in the Division 2 tournament against Corunna.

OTSEGO COUNTY -- The Kingsley Stags have had really good volleyball teams the last several years but they never really got the chance to see how good they were because they were always eliminated in the postseason by Cadillac.

The Vikings on the other hand had won nine straight regional titles entering the Division 2 regional final on Thursday night. That stacked the deck even more against Kingsley who has been eliminated each of the last four playoffs by Cadillac in either the district or regional rounds.

That didn't seem to bother the Lady Stags in this year's meeting as they won a back-and-forth first game 25-22 before taking the second two games with relative ease 25-17 and 25-11 for the three game sweep and the regional championship over the arch rival.

Next up for Kingsley will be a state quarterfinal in the Division 2 tournament against Corunna.

Other regional winners on Thursday night included Traverse City St. Francis over Beal City (3-0) in Division 3 while Leland defeated Bellaire (3-0) and Onaway got by Rudyard (3-2) in Division 4.
